
Pirates Plan Dance Team Tryouts

Peoria âPirates officials have announced the new dance team coordinators for the 2004 season. Jill Crouch and Nina Butler will serve as co-chairs of the new Dance and Spirit Teams. Crouch and Butler are co-founders and owners of The Company, Dance, Tumbling & Fine Arts, also known as The Company, located in Pekin, IL.
"I am honored to be associated with the Peoria Pirates," said Butler. "I am also very excited to be involved with the new Dance and Spirit Team and the New Youth Dancing and Tumbling Team."
Butler was awarded the YMCA Women's Recognition Outstanding Achievement Business Award in May 2001 and Crouch was awarded the YMCA Women's Recognition Outstanding Achievement Sports Award in May 1999. The Company, which opened their doors in 1998, houses more than 300 children teaching the art of dance, tumbling, voice, piano, art lessons and performance. In the summer it is the home to a special education/At Risk Summer camp for children.
Crouch has successfully completed the Universal Dance Associations 5 star-coaching program for 5 years, Patti Komora's Tumble Bear Fitness Program and the USA Gymnastics Kinder Accreditation Teacher's Workshop.
Butler graduated from Illinois State University with a major in dance. She started the dance program for The Pekin Park District and was the dance director for 5 years.
Crouch and Butler also play a large part in various community events including: The Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament, the Lil' Miss Marigold Pageant and they co-founded the Youth Alive At-Risk Arts Scholarship Program.
The Company's competition dance teams have performed at places such as Walt Disney World, The Chicago Bulls, local beauty pageants including Miss Heart of Illinois and other local and national dance competitions.
Crouch lives in Pekin with her husband Larry, her daughter Allie and her son Jeremy.
Butler also lives in Pekin with her husband Rick and her three children Jacqueline, Nicholas and Blake.
Dates for the tryout have not yet been set, but they are planned for early January to coincide with college breaks.
