Peoria Rough Riders News Release
Peoria - The Peoria Pirates are back on the air. Pirate officials announced today that they have reached an agreement with the JMP Radio Group assuring fans will be able to hear all home and away games on Fox Sports Radio 1290 WWFS for the 2004 season. Ed Hammond of Fox Sports Radio 1290 will be the play-by-play announcer. The team has not yet named the color commentator for the games.
"Everyone in the Pirate family is excited to be back on the air for the 2004 season," said Tom Tomaszewski, General Manager of the Peoria Pirates. " It is a vital part of our ability to stay in touch with our Pirate fans offering them the chance to support our team even if they can't get to a game. With this piece in place our extended electronic Pirate family can be assured they'll hear about Pirate trips, promotions and opportunities to meet Pirate Players, Coaches and the other Pirate fan gatherings that help make being a Pirate fan fun. Fox Sports Radio 1290 is the right place for our games to be and we're energized by the enthusiasm JMP Radio brings to this partnership."
The JMP Radio Group has been involved with the broadcast of Peoria Pirates football since the early days of the Pirates in the Indoor Football League broadcasting games for 4 of the five years of the team's existence.
"Everyone at Fox Sports Radio 1290 and the JMP Radio Group is thrilled to be 'back in the saddle' with the Peoria Pirates," said John Malone, WWFS Program Director. "The new local ownership is already affecting many positive changes for the Pirates organization, and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the team. We're glad to be on the same team as Pat Ward, Coach Cowdrey, and the stellar group being assembled to take the Pirates to a new level."
The 2004 Season is slated to begin the first weekend in April and end the weekend of July 23-24 with one bye week expected in the schedule. The League is still working to finalize each individual team's schedule for the 2004 season.
