Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Me. - The Portland Pirates (17-15-1-0) won their last game of 2014 with a 3-1 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack (17-11-2-2) on Wednesday night in front of a packed house at the Cross Insurance Arena. The deciding goal came on a power play in the second period off the stick of Brendan Shinnimin.

The first period didn't see any scoring, and the Wolf Pack led in shots on goal by a tally of 5-1. The Pirates turned it around in the second period, however, and applied pressure in the Hartford zone. Eric Selleck drew first blood at 7:34, assisted by Andrew Campbell and Corey Trivino. It didn't take long for Hartford to tie it up 1-1, with Chris Bourque scoring at 9:18, with an assist from Marek Hrivik. Shinnimin scored the power play go-ahead and eventual game winner at 11:57 in the second frame, assisted by Campbell and Evan Oberg.

The third period saw more offensive pressure from Hartford, but Pirates net minder Mike McKenna (12-12-1) was up to the challenge. McKenna stopped 22 of 23 Wolf Pack shots on the night. Mackenzie Skapski, Hartford's goalie, blocked 27 of 29 Pirates shots before being pulled to give the Wolf Pack a man-advantage in the final minute. Lucas Lessio locked the game up with an empty netter at 19:55, assisted by Campbell and McKenna.

The Pirates return to action Friday Night at 7:00 p.m. with a game against the Springfield Falcons at the Cross Insurance Arena. They will host the Providence Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night, January 3rd. Tickets for that game are buy-one-get-one-half-off, call 207-PIRATES for tickets and more information.
