Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators ended 2014 with a blowout 6-2 victory over the visiting Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Derek Grant finished with a goal and two assists while Carter Camper chipped in three helpers to lead the B-Sens to its third straight win.
David Dziurzynski opened the scoring for Binghamton 3:05 into the first period when he took a feed from Matt Puempel and beat starting Phantom's netminder Anthony Stolarz for his third goal of the season. Lehigh Valley responded just over five minutes later when Jason Akeson sent a pass from Brett Hextall to the back of the net for his seventh marker of the year. The Phantoms took their lone lead of the night at 12:42 of the first when Blair Jones pushed the puck under a sprawling Scott Greenham to make it 2-1 Lehigh Valley. Shane Prince evened the score at 2-2 with less than three minutes to play in the period sending the teams to the first intermission tied up.
Despite only outshooting the Phantoms 15-13 in the middle frame, the B-Sens exploded for four second period goals to take control. Cole Schneider scored the eventual game-winning tally just 1:41 into the period for his 11th of the year. Just past the nine minute mark, Alex Grant sent a blast from the point on the power play that beat Stolarz to make it 4-2 Binghamton. Just over three minutes later, Derek Grant notched his 12th of the year to end Stolarz's night and put the B-Sens up 5-2. Puempel beat relief goaltender Rob Zepp with less than three minutes to play in the second period to send Binghamton to the final break leading 6-2.
Greenham stopped all 10 shots faced in the final period for his third victory in as many starts and sent the B-Sens into 2015 on a three-game win streak.
Binghamton travels to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Friday, January 2, for a 7:05p.m. faceoff against the Penguins.
