Peoria Rough Riders News Release

PEORIA (Ill) – Three Pirates players and two cheerleaders helped the Brimfield Public Library kickoff its summer reading program on Tuesday. WR/DB Jay Johnson, OL/DL Tyshaun Whitson, OL/DL Antonio "Bear" Brown, Reithel and Mia signed autographs and posed for pictures with some of the Pirates' smallest fans.

This year's summer reading program, which is geared towards pre-school to eighth graders is themed, "Lights, Camera, READ!" The program encourages reading by featuring local celebrities, athletes and other role models who demonstrate fun in education, especially in the summer when school is not in session.

The program officially begins on July 7th, 2003 and runs throughout the month of July. A special program is planned for each Monday in July. The participants get to make an autograph shirt in which featured guests will sign during the month. In addition, prizes will be awarded periodically throughout the program for those who participate each week.

The schedule includes:

Monday, July 7, 2003: Kickoff – featuring "Magic by Corey" Corey Leonard magician. Preschool-2nd grade 10:00am-11:30am. 3rd-8th grades 1:30pm-3:00pm

Monday, July 14, 2003: Reader's Theatre – Children will perform special "stories" which will be read. Children who are unable to read will have special "extra" parts. We will videotape the children so that they can watch themselves be "stars!" We hope to have the video available in the fall for parents to check out! Be sure that you have signed a release form for your child to participate! Preschool-2nd grade 10:00am-11:30am. 3rd-8th grades 1:30pm-3:00pm
