(ALTOONA, PA)- One of the staples of the off-season baseball calendar--the Pittsburgh Pirates' Winter Caravan--made its annual stop in Altoona Tuesday night at the Logan Valley Mall.

The despite the fact that a winter storm blanketed the area and that the Pirates' bus was stuck in traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for over three hours, the event went on without a hitch. An impressive turnout of over 200 Pirate and Curve fans braved the snowy and icy conditions to attend the event.

The event began with an exciting highlight video recapping the 2003 season and introductions of the Pirates' entourage, followed by an autograph and "meet and greet" session. Fans had the opportunity to meet 1979 World Series hero Kent Tekulve, General Manager Dave Littlefield, starting pitchers Kip Wells and Josh Fogg and broadcasters Lanny Frattare and Bob Walk.

"The Pirates do a tremendous job reaching out into the community and we always enjoy working with them on great events like this," said Curve Community Relations Director Elsie Zengel. "The fact that so many fans treked through the snow to attend the event is a testament to the passion they have for the Pirates and the Curve."

The Pirates' Winter Caravan has and will be visiting 11 other communities throughout Central and Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

The next Curve community event will come up on Saturday, Feb. 21 beginning at 9 a.m. when the club will hold its annual National Anthem tryouts at the Logan Valley Mall. For more details please contact the Curve at (814) 943-5400 or toll-free at 1-877-99-CURVE.
