Pirates Battle Bruins in Providence
April 6, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Providence, RI - The Portland Pirates head to Providence on Sunday for their last meeting with the Bruins for the 2013-14 season. Puck drop is set for 3:05 PM. Portland leads the season series 4-2-0-1.
The Pirates dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the Manchester Monarchs yesterday in Manchester, giving Manchester their first VIP Cup Championship. Lucas Lessio scored all 3 of the Pirates goals for his first professional hat trick, but Jordan Weal answered with a hat trick of his own for the Monarchs. Louis Domingue took the loss for the Pirates in his third straight start, stopping 23 shots.
Providence dropped a 2-1 shootout decision to the Hartford Wolf Pack last night. Alexander Khokhlachev scored Providence's lone goal, but the Bruins were outscored 2-1 in the shootout. Malcolm Subban made 24 saves on 25 shots in the defeat.
Providence and Portland last played on Purple Night presented by Central Maine Medical Center at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on March 28th. The Bruins won 6-5 after scoring 5 goals in the first period. Andy Miele, Brandon Yip, Brendan Shinnimin, Tobias Rieder, and Mathieu Brodeur were the goal scorers for the Pirates in the defeat.
KeyBank Key to the Game
Hold the Line: The Pirates were unable to hold a lead yesterday in Manchester and have had trouble closing out games this season. In order to be successful this afternoon, the Pirates will need a killer instinct on offense and a strong effort on defense to prevent Providence from taking a late lead.
This afternoon's game can be heard on WLOB AM 1310 as well as WEZR FM 105.5/AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County. The game can also be heard online at portlandpirates.com by clicking "Listen Live " and can be seen live on AHL Live at ahllive.com. The pregame show starts at 2:40 with Jeff Mannix.
Tickets for tonight's game are available by calling the Androscoggin Bank Colisee box office at (207) 783-2009 ext. 525 or online at thecolisee.com.
