Pirates Announce Opening Night Roster

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League have announced their official roster for opening night on Saturday, October 8 against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard.

The Pirates will open their 19th season of American Hockey League competition, presented by Bill Dodge Auto Group, with a roster of 26 skaters, including 15 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders. Returning to the Pirates for a second season is forward Igor Gongalsky who skated in 54 games while registering 10 points (4-6-10) during the 2010-11 season in Portland.

The 2011-12 Pirates roster features two skaters who led their team in scoring during the 2010-11 season, including forwards Marc-Antoine Pouliot (72 points with the Norfolk Admirals) and Mathieu Beaudoin (51 points with the San Antonio Rampage). Adding to the depth at forward are a pair of former Hobey Baker Award winners in Ryan Duncan (2007 with the University of North Dakota) and Andy Miele (2011 with the Miami University of Ohio).

Listed below is the Pirates Opening Day Roster:

Forwards: Mathieu Beaudoin, Spencer Bennett, Evan Bloodoff, Alexandre Bolduc, Ryan Duncan, Igor Gongalsky, Brett Hextall, Ryan Hollweg, Colin Long, Andy Miele, Marc-Antoine Pouliot, Ashton Rome, Jordan Szwarz, Matt Watkins and Ethan Werek.

Defensemen: Dean Arsene, Mathieu Brodeur, Tyler Eckford, Maxim Goncharov, Nathan Oystrick, Nick Ross, Garrett Stafford, Michael Stone and Chris Summers.

Goaltenders: Curtis McElhinney and Justin Pogge.

The high-flying action will open at home for the 34th season of AHL action at the Cumberland County Civic Center, on Saturday, October 15th when the Manchester Monarchs visit in a 7 p.m. start, featuring a JobsinME.com Magnetic Schedule giveaway. Individual tickets for the Pirates 2011-12 regular season are now on sale and fans can purchase their tickets to any of the 38 Pirates home games by visiting the Pirates ticket office, Cumberland County Civic Center box office (open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.), or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
