Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-The Milwaukee Admirals begin their 35th professional season and 11th as a member of the American Hockey League when they travel to Peoria on Saturday night to face the Rivermen at 7:00 pm at Carver Arena.
With first-year coach Kirk Muller at the helm and in the brand new Midwest Division, the Admirals return eight players and three of their top four scorers from last year's team that captured the best record in both the West Division and Western Conference. Leading that group of returners is center Chris Mueller, who topped the team in scoring last season with 50 points (24g-26a) and also played in 15 games with the Nashville Predators. Last season's third leading scorer Ryan Thang is back in Milwaukee for his second season. The Notre Dame alum finished last year with 14 goals and 27 assists and was the team's top point-getter among rookies. Thang and Gabriel Bourque, back for his second season as well, tied for the team lead in playoff scoring with 13 points apiece.
Goaltender Jeremy Smith starts the season as the Admirals number one goalie after finishing last year with a 16-8-2 record to go along with a 2.26 goals against average and a .921 save percentage, both of which were the fifth best marks in team history. In the post-season the Dearborn, MI native collected a 7-6 record with a 2.28 GAA and a .931 save percentage. Other returners for Milwaukee include defenseman Roman Josi, who was the team's leading scorer among blueliners with 40 points and Scott Ford, who has been an alternate captain for the past three seasons.
Newcomers to this year's roster include a number of highly touted prospects including defenseman Ryan Ellis, a number one draft pick of the Predators and the Ontario Hockey League's Player of the Year last season. Taylor Beck and Michael Latta both enter their rookie seasons with the Admirals after placing one and two, respectively, on the Guelph Storm in scoring last year. In addition, both forward Kyle Wilson and defenseman Tyler Sloan played in over 20 games at the NHL level last season and now find Milwaukee home.
The Admirals will host a viewing party for the season opener at Buck Bradley's, located at 1019 N. Old World 3rd St. in downtown Milwaukee.
The Ads commence the home portion of their schedule on Friday, October 14th at 7:00 pm at the Bradley Center against the Chicago Wolves. Fans can order tickets by calling Ticketmaster at (800)745-300 or by logging on to the Admirals website at www.milwaukeeadmirals.com.
