Pippins Wrap up Series with Corvallis

June 6, 2022 - West Coast League (WCL)
Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, Wash.- Déjà vu all over again for the Pippins who were shutout after Corvallis pitching held them to just 4 hits on the night and 16 hits on the weekend.

Yakima Valley's bats were stifled, but defensive mistakes hurt them as well. The Pippins tallied 4 errors to account for several unearned runs.

The trouble started in the top of the 3rd inning when umpires decided starter Daniel Charron had to change his delivery on the mound, resulting in a delay. After the situation settled, an error to load the bases opened the floodgates and the Knights saw 6 runs cross the plate. Corvallis pitching held the Pippins to just 1 hit until the 7th inning, and extended the lead by 2 on a James Anderson RBI double and a wild pitch.

On the bright side, once again Pippins relievers did not allow a run after the 5th inning. Isaac Yeager and Gaven Mattson combined for 3 scoreless and 4 strikeouts to finish things out.

"Our bats are gonna get hot," said Daniel Charron. "Once we get rolling, this is a gonna be a very dangerous team."

The Pippins will put this series in the rearview mirror and move forward, with an off-day on Monday and the next home series against the Walla Walla Sweets starting on Tuesday.
