Pippins Sign First Two Players for 2015

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Pippins 2015 roster gained its first members Tuesday, as the team signed Indiana State players Taylor Steen and Tyler Friis to contracts for next season.
"I am very excited to begin our relationship with Indiana State University and welcome two of their top players for the 2015 season," said Pippins Manager Marcus McKimmy. "Both will be integral parts of our lineup on opening day."
Steen enters his junior year with the Sycamores this spring. The left-handed-hitting catcher hails from Grand Fork, ND and played in eight games for Indiana State in 2014, hitting .278 with 3 RBI over 18 at-bats.
"Taylor is a left-handed hitting catcher who will bring great stability at a priority position to our team," said McKimmy. "He will be a junior at Indiana State, so his maturity and ability to handle a pitching staff will be a great asset."
Friis prepares to enter his first year in Terre Haute after graduating from Auburn Mountainview High School last spring, where he won the 3A state championship with the Lions in 2013. Perfect Game USA named the middle infielder a 2014 West Region honorable mention player.
"Tyler was in my opinion one of the top HS shortstops in the state of Washington in 2014," said McKimmy. "He is a kid who we plan to use as an everyday player in our infield who can also effect the game dramatically with his speed. I am very happy that Tyler will be a Pippin."
