Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
Josh Hankins had a big day at the plate and Wyatt Adams posted a strong pitching performance as the Yakima Valley Pippins beat the Cascade Collegiate League Showcase team 13-2 on Monday at Yakima County Stadium.
The Pippins outscored CCL 32-2 in the two games they played this year, including a 19-1 win on July 11. Yakima Valley finished its nonleague schedule with a 4-1 record.
Adams had his best outing of the year. The Whitman right-hander surrendered just one unearned run and one hit through five innings to pick up the win, and struck out five and walking one.
The offense exploded once again in nonleague play, knocking out 13 hits. Hankins led the way with a 5-for-6 effort with two runs scored. He was 5-for-5 entering his final at-bat, but struck out to end the eighth.
Yakima Valley got it going early and never looked back. The Pippins scored six runs in the first, with Maxim Fullerton, CJ Colyer, Gabe Villaflor and Beck Maguire each driving in runs. The other two scored on a wild pitch and a ground out.
Spencer Shipman and Fullerton also had multi-hit games in the win, each finishing 2-for-4. Shipman had a two-out, two-RBI single in the fourth that extended the lead to 8-1.
The Pippins return to West Coast League play in Portland, starting a three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
