Pippins Opening Weekend Continues

Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, Wash.- Game 2 of the 2022 season didn't go as planned as the Corvallis Knights pulled away to a 7-run victory.

Tonight it was Linn-Benton's Kaden Segel who pitched 5 scoreless frames, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 7. After a leadoff single by Liam McCallum in the 2nd, Segel went on a spree of 10 straight batters retired into the 5th.

The Knights took the lead on a Mason Le RBI single in the first, and added 5 in the 3rd on a pair of Pippins errors and an RBI double from James Anderson.

Once again Pippins relief pitching performed well, as they followed up 4 scoreless innings last night with 6 innings allowing only 2 runs tonight. Carson Judd pitched 3 good innings to the 6th and McCallum pitched the final 3 allowing one hit and striking out 2.

Spencer Shipman would be the first Yakima Valley run of the year after his leadoff double was pushed across on Shayne Simpson's RBI groundout in the 6th. Shipman accounted for 2 of the 4 hits with his 2 doubles on the night.

"It's definitely a flush it and move-on vibe," said Shipman. "It's a tough start, but it's a long summer. We're gonna be good."

The Pippins will have a chance to salvage a game in the series finale Sunday evening at 6:05 PT. The stream can be found at YouTube.com/PippinsBaseball.
