Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, Washington - It's been tough sledding for the Yakima Valley Pippins' offense lately. The squad could only eke out one run for the second straight game, falling to the Bend Elks 4-1 on Friday at Yakima County Stadium.

Hank Dunn's infield single in the first was the lone hit for the Pippins until the sixth, when Jace Phelan and Beck Maguire each notched singles, with Maguire's plating the lone Pippins run.

Left-hander Ethan Salscheider, who turned in a strong performance in Longview in the Pippins' season-opening series against Cowlitz, had another quality outing against the Elks, allowing two (earned) runs and five hits in five innings. He also struck out two and walked two.

The Elks improved to 3-4 on the young season, while the Pippins slipped to 3-4 with their third straight loss.

Leadoff batter Elijah Jackson finished 2-for-5 for the Elks.

The Pippins continue their home season-opening seven-game set with another game against the Elks at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, Alzheimer's Awareness Night at 6 p.m. Sunday, and a nonleague School Kids' Day at 10:30 a.m. Monday against the Redmond Dudes.
