Pippins Explode Late to Take Home Series against Wenachee

YAKIMA, Wash. - Cameron Liss was strong in his Pippins debut out the bullpen, and the Pippins rode a pair of 4-run innings to an 8-3 win over Wenatchee on Saturday night at Yakima County Stadium, clinching their second consecutive series win.
Liss, who joined the team Saturday morning, came out of the bullpen for the Pippins (4-1) in the 4th inning with a two men on and two outs. After a fly out to end the inning, Liss avoided much trouble over his next 4 innings of relief, allowing just 4 baserunners (2 hits and 2 walks) while striking out four. He earned the win by virtue of starter Mark Finkelnburg not completing the five requisite innings.
The Pippins gave Finkelnburg, also making his Pippins debut, a 4-run cushion in the first inning after Ryan Altenberger hit a solo shot to give Wenatchee (1-4) an early 1-0 lead. Owen Cobb singled home Christian Padilla after a walk and a Zach Lew single, and then Lew scored on a wild pitch. With two men in scoring position, Tyler Pittman singled through the right side to add 2 more runs to the Pippins' tally. While Wenatchee threatened on several occasions, the Pippins never trailed again.
Finkelnburg started strong besides the home run, but ran into some trouble in the fourth inning and was relieved with two outs. He allowed 3 runs, two of them earned, on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4 over his 3.2 innings. Nick Brown closed out the Pippins win with a scoreless 9th inning, including a strikeout.
The Pippins added four more runs in the 6th inning against AppleSox reliever Cameron Sommer, although only one run was earned. The Pippins hit six singles in that inning, in which all nine men came to the plate, and benefited from throwing errors from the pitcher and from center fielder Johnny Graham.
Trent Sellers started on the mound for Wenatchee and allowed the 4 first-inning runs over 4 innings on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Wenatchee used four other relievers, all of whom left with unscathed lines.
Lew led the way offensively for the Pippins with 3 hits, including an 8th-inning double. Cipriano also added two hits. Every batter in the Pippins lineup had at least one base hit. No Wenatchee batter had multiple hits.
The series concludes on Sunday as the Pippins go for their first series sweep of 2019, with first pitch of Game 3 set for 6:05 PM PT. The Pippins will send left-hander Dylan Barkley to the mound for his second start of the year, while Wenatchee will counter with right-hander Keegan Romig.
