Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
NANAIMO, British Columbia - Yakima Valley used a seven-run sixth inning on Thursday en route to a 13-8 win over Nanaimo to salvage the three-game set on its trek through Canada.
Konner Kincade finished 2-for-4 and Tommy Eisenstat was 2-5 for the Pippins, who head to Victoria on Friday for a three-game series with the HarbourCats before returning home.
The Pippins trailed twice in the early innings before knotting the score at 3-3 on an RBI single by Mike Woodward.
Yakima Valley erupted in the sixth, sending 11 batters to the plate to take the lead for good.
In that frame, Woodward started the scoring with a bases-loaded walk and Eisenstat plated two more with a single two batters later. After Jace Phelan was hit by a pitch to reload the bases, a Payton Graham ground out scored another run. Two more runs scored on an outfield error on a fly ball by Maxim Fullerton, and Zack Blaszak drove in the final run with a single.
The Pippins added three more in the seventh - the first when Eisenstat was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, another on a sacrifice fly by Phelan, and the final on an error on a Graham ground ball.
Jackson Betancourt earned the win with three shutout innings of relief, striking out one and walking one. He allowed just one hit during that stint.
