Pippins Complete Sweep With 8-4 Win Over Kitsap

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Valley Pippins completed their second consecutive sweep with an 8-4 win over the Kitsap BlueJackets Sunday evening in front of 975 fans at County Stadium.
For the first time in the series, the Pippins scored first, as JC Snyder came home on a balk by Kitsap starter Tarik Skubal in the 2 nd inning.
Kitsap (8-9) would take the lead in the top of the 5 th against Pippins starter Beau Kerns, using an RBI double from Anthony Blackie and an RBI single from Jeff Bohling to take a 2-1 lead.
The Pippins (15-8 overall, 12-6 West Coast League) responded immediately, pushing three runs across in the bottom of the 5 th to take a 4-2 advantage. Ryan Yamane tied the game on a safety squeeze, before Justin Jacobs and Vince Fernandez each contributed RBI singles.
The Pippins added four more runs in the 6 th, including a two-run single from Yamane, a wild pitch and another RBI single off the bat of Fernandez. Yamane went 1-2 with 3 RBI in Sunday's contest, while Fernandez went 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI.
Kerns gave up two more runs in the top of the 7 th to cut the lead to 8-4, before he would exit the ballgame. The right-hander worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing 8 hits, 4 runs, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts on his way to his second victory in as many starts.
The BlueJackets had one last rally going in the 9 th inning against reliever Nick Kern, putting runners on 1 st and 2 nd with two outs, but Kern struck out pinch-hitter Blake Valley to complete the sweep.
The Pippins have now won six straight games and 10 of their last 11, as they await the first game of a three-game series with the Walla Walla Sweets Monday night at 7:05 p.m.
