Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, Wash. - Two infielders from California universities are the newest members of the Yakima Valley Pippins.

Cameron Haskell, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound left-handed hitter from Temecula, Calif., is a freshman infielder at the University of California, Riverside. He also pitched at Chaparral High School, where he set a school record with 14 strikeouts in one game.

"I see Cameron fitting into the everyday lineup somewhere in the infield, and fans shouldn't be surprised to see him at any of the four spots," manager Marcus McKimmy said. "His role on the mound will be only out of the bullpen. He's the type of kid whose bat can change the game with one swing, and his versatile skill set allows the coaching staff to play matchups as well."

Derek Molina is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound infielder from Turlock, Calif., who is a freshman at Cal State Northridge. He attended Atwater High, where he hit .353 and earned first-team and all-league honors. He is a right-handed switch hitter.

"Derek is another talented freshman who will play the left side of the infield for the Pippins, primarily third base," McKimmy said. "His coaches at CSUN rave about his makeup and baseball IQ. At 6'3", 195 pounds, he is very physical for his age and, like Haskell, has incredible upside with the glove and the bat."

The latest signings bring to 20 the number of announced players on this year's roster, with more signings upcoming, McKimmy said.

The Pippins open the 2016 season at Wenatchee on June 3. Yakima Valley's home opener is slated for Monday, June 6, at 7:05 p.m. against 2015 West Coast League champion Bend, Ore. Season tickets and ticket mini plans are available for purchase at Hunky Shaw's Team Shop, 12 S. Second St. in the historic Larson Building in downtown Yakima. Ticket packages also can be purchased by calling 509-575-4487 or online at pippinsbaseball.com.
