Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
YAKIMA, Wash. - The roster continues to fill out for the Yakima Valley Pippins heading into the 2015 season, as the team added Cal State-Northridge pitchers Matt Campbell and Monty McCasland to the squad.
"As a coaching staff, we are super excited to extend our relationship with the Matadors of Cal State Northridge baseball," said Pippins Manager Marcus McKimmy. "Adding two quality pitchers in Matt Campbell and Monty McCasland is something our fans and community will be more than pleased to hear. Coach Moore has an unbelievable reputation for developing young pitchers at the division one level, as was evidenced by Kenny Rosenberg's fantastic summer in 2014."
Campbell, a right-handed pitcher, joins the Matadors for his first season this spring. He was named to the all-CIF second team at Simi Valley High School. The native of Simi Valley, California is a management major at CSUN.
"Matt, we anticipate, will be an upper 80's right-handed pitcher this summer with some ability to possibly be the 90 mph arm he was in high school," said McKimmy. "He is progressing very well to this point in the spring after some minor arm trouble in the fall. If he's 100 percent in the summer, he will have the ability to impact the game both out of the pen or as a starter."
McCasland, who stands at 6'5" and throws from the left side, is also in his first year in Northridge after transferring from Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas. He will be a redshirt junior for CSUN this spring, majoring in business economics.
"Monty has been in the WCL before, and that to me is a huge confidence booster to start the summer with that kind of comfort. He's a left-handed arm who will get outs for us coming out of the bullpen. Reports indicate a very live arm this winter that sits 86-88 mph, and as a junior in 2015, will provide our pitching staff some much needed leadership."
