
Pioneers Take Home Win In The Eleventh

Elmira, NY- An RBI fielder's choice by Digz Edwards gave the Pioneers a 4-3 win over the Bangor Lumberjacks in the bottom of the eleventh inning on Thursday night.
Elmira got their first lead of the night in the third inning on an RBI single by Cleatus Davidson to score Ronnie Deck, who led the inning off with a single. The Pioneers' lead would be short-lived though, as Bangor scored two runs on Paul Powell's double to make it 2-1. In the eighth the âJacks added to their lead on a solo homer by Jose Garcia, his second in as many nights against the Pio's. In the eighth Elmira staged an amazing rally that was capped off by a Yuji Nerei two-run double that tied the game. The double was Nerei's second hit of the evening part of a 2-4 night. The score would remain tied until the bottom of the eleventh inning when the Pioneers managed to load the bases with one out. Digz Edwards then stepped to the plate and hit a sharp grounder to Bangor Shortstop Paul Powell who made a quick throw to home that pulled Catcher Brad Hargreaves off the plate allowing Jobu Morita to slide in safely with the winning run.
Julio LaSalle started on the mound for Elmira turning in yet another solid outing, but received a no-decision. LaSalle worked eight innings and allowed three runs on six hits and five walks while striking out seven. Matt Elfeldt came on in the ninth and held the Lumberjacks hitless over two innings before turning the game over to Brian Ford in the eleventh. Ford pitched one scoreless inning to pick up his fifth win of the season, which ties him for the team lead.
