Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
Wilkes-Barre, PA- Even though their season ended with the heartbreaking loss to Florida this past Saturday, the Pioneers standouts still shine. OL/DL Jim Sodano was named to the American Conference All-af2 First team while WR/LB Rocco Forgione and DS Jamie Hattley were named to the American Conference All-af2 Second Team.
"Our team had a great season this year," said President/GM Dave Berryman. "It is an honor to have so many of our players receive such high accolades and our organization is extremely proud of their achievements."
Sodano was named ADT Defensive Player of the Week in the Pioneers last regular season game against Macon. The second year lineman from East Stroudsburg, finished his season with 25 tackles (17 unassisted), four tackles for a loss, two sacks, two pass break ups, ten QB Hurries, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and three blocked kicks. To most fans, the highlight of the season came when Sodano stripped the ball from Macon's Tyrone Myers and ran it for a 43-yard touchdown with 20 seconds remaining in the game.
Valley View grad Rocco Forgione was no stranger to the spotlight this season with the Pioneers. He became the offensive go to man and broke four single season records for the team. Forgione finished the season with 104 catches for 1363 yards and 32 touchdowns for 200 points; all new records. Defensively, Forgione racked up 40 tackles (29 unassisted), one tackle for a loss and six pass break ups.
Jamie Hattley also broke a record this year with 102 tackles overshadowing the record he set the previous year of 91. Hattley finished the season with 89 unassisted tackles, three tackles for a loss, three interceptions, 24 pass break ups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
