Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will face a familiar foe this Saturday at 7:00pm in the first-ever af2 playoff game held at Wachovia Arena. The Pioneers will host Northeast Division rival, the Cape Fear Wildcats, in a bid to advance to the American Conference championship game.

"We've already played Cape Fear three times this year," said Pioneers head coach Les moss. "We beat them twice by seven and they beat us once by eight, so this will obviously be a contest between two very well balanced teams."

"I think it's safe to say whoever takes care of the football and makes the least mistakes will win," he added.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and the Wildcats last squared off on July 24th in Fayetteville, NC for the Northeast Division title in a seesaw game the Pioneers eventually won, 53-46. The teams split two previous meetings this year prior to the July 24th contest.

The Pioneers are currently the top seed in the af2's American Conference playoffs. If Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defeats Cape Fear on the 14th, the team will host the American Conference championship game Sunday, August 22nd at 6:00pm. If the Pioneers win the American Conference title, they will face the National Conference champs for the 2004 ArenaCup championship Saturday, August 28th at 7:00pm at Wachovia Arena.

Ticket prices for the August 14th and August 22nd games will remain unchanged from the regular season, ranging from $5.00 for upper-level end zone seats to $40.00 for front row seats. There will be a $3.00 surcharge for all tickets should the Pioneers advance to the ArenaCup game.

Fans may purchase tickets for one, two, or all three games by contacting the team's administrative office at either 570-270-5811 or 570-270-3848.
