
Pioneers drop season-opener to Quebec 4-2

ELMIRA, N.Y. â The Elmira Pioneers fell in its first game of the season to Quebec, 4-2 at Dunn Field Thursday night.
Quebec tied the game, 2-2 in the eighth inning when pitcher Chris McGee gave up an RBI single to shortstop Robbie Kison allowing third baseman Osmani Garcia to score. Garcia got the inning started, reaching on shortstop Cleatus Davidson's error.
The Capitales took the lead in the ninth when right fielder M. Andre Charbonneau singled, knocking in designated hitter Brad Gennaro. Pitcher Hatuey Mendoza walked in center fielder Benoit Emond for the final run of the game.
Third baseman Ryan Lehr got the Pioneers started in the seond inning with a single. First baseman Rickie Morton followed, knocking in the Pioneers only runs with a two-run homerun.
Morton led the Pioneers on the night finishing 1-2 with two RBI. Starting pitcher Brian Edmondson allowed only four hits and struck out five over six innings.
Quebec's Michelandy Perez earned the win going three innings, giving up only one hit and striking out two.
The Pioneers are 0-1 while the Capitales improve to 1-0.
Elmira hosts Quebec for game two Friday, May 23 at 7:05 p.m. Probable starters are Quebec's Antwoine Anderson and Nate Tekavec for the Pioneers.
