Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

(Wilkes-Barre) The Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Pioneers and Head Coach Rich Ingold have been assigned wide receiver Drew Weatherly. They also were assigned 6'1 235 pound Rutgers linebacker Terry Bynes. LB/FB Agean Robinson and WR Jason Williams also return to the Pioneers from the 2007 American Conference Championship team.

Coach Ingold was enticed by the prospects of the 6'4 218 pound Weatherly. "Drew has great size and speed. He can cause some real match-up problems in the red zone," said Ingold.

Weatherly had an injury plagued career at Division I Maryland, but made big plays, in big spots, in big games during his four years. An athletic freak, the big receiver adds a dimension to the Pioneers receiving core of size and speed. His propensity for the big play could turn into a big success in arenafootball where he will be seeing many more balls thrown his way.

The Pioneers have also added Rutgers LB Terry Bynes. The 6'1 235 pound Bynes was a two year starter for the Scarlet Knights. The high school sprinter was always around the ball in an opportunistic Rutgers defense, leading the Big East in fumble recoveries his junior year.

The Pioneers also bring back two members from last year's American Conference Champions in LB/FB Agean Robinson and WR Jason Williams.

The 6'2 230 pound Robinson played in just five games for the Pioneers in 2007 recording 10 tackles. The versatile Maine product played in all three home playoff games and the ArenaCup at both linebacker spots and fullback.

The 6'0 205 Williams also played in five games last year with the Pioneers grabbing two touchdown passes in limited time.

The Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Pioneers will be kicking off their seventh season in the arenafootball2 league with the af2 opening night game in Quad City on March 28th. Their home opener will be Friday, April 11 versus the Mahoning Valley Thunder. Season tickets for the Pioneers 2008 season are now on sale!
