Newark Pilots News Release
Newark- A great crowd showed up to watch the regular season finale of the Newark Pilots at Colburn Park as they welcomed the Glens Falls Golden Eagles. It was a cool and rainy evening as the Pilots beat the Golden Eagles 4-1 to lock up the West Division title.
The Golden Eagles got on the board first in the fourth inning. It was an unearned when Glens Falls had runners on first and second and Michael Bradshaw (Hofstra) came up with two outs and hit one up the middle that went off of the chest of second baseman Tommy Wagner (Cornell) allowing Brandon Purcell (Georgia College) to come all the way to score from second base.
The Pilots knotted up the score when Samm Wiggins (Houston Baptist) lined a double down the left field line with runners on the corner that brought home Tim Lewis (Maryland) and it was tied 1-1 after six innings.
With two outs in the home half of the seventh inning the Pilots took the lead. Back to back walks and a hit batter brought up Tanner Giesel (Southeastern CC) who singled to right field bring in Wagner and Logan Boyher (Columbia). Wyatt Padgett (BYU) came up next and lofted a ball to center field that bounced in and out of the glove of Colton Montgomery (Georgia College) and Newark led 4-1.
Travis Laiter (Cortland) came on to close the door for the save in the ninth after Braxton Wilks (Kansas St.) pitched four scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win.
Pilots will face the winner of the Watertown Rams vs Elmira Pioneers thursday on Friday night at Colburn Park with first pitch at 7:05 pm.
