Newark Pilots News Release
The Newark Pilots paid their visit to Utica on Friday night, splitting a doubleheader against the Brewers at Murnane Field. The Brewers took the first game of the twin bill with a 3-2 walk-off win. Cody Burton (Alabama-Huntsville) got the game-winning RBI double, his second walk-off hit of the summer, while starting pitcher Marcos Martinez (Citrus CC) pitched a complete game.
The Pilots dominated the second game, winning by the final of 14-3. The Pilots used a nine-run fifth inning to put the game away for good, sending fourteen batters to the plate in the inning. The Brewers scored all three of their runs in game two in the sixth. Cedric Mullins (Louisburg) laced an RBI single to give his team their first run of the ballgame. Two batters later, Anthony Villa (St. Mary's) plated two more runs with a double in the gap. Kyle Teachout (Hendrix) threw six innings for the Pilots and picked up the win.
The Brewers and Pilots will both be at home on Saturday. The Brewers will host the struggling Watertown Rams while the West division-leading Pilots take on the second-place Elmira Pioneers.
