Pilots fall to Diamond Dawgs in Home Opener
June 2, 2018 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Newark Pilots News Release
?It was a beautiful evening for baseball as the Newark Pilots kicked off their 2018 season against the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs. Matt Walczak started on the mound for the Pilots, pitching 3 2/3 strong innings.
It was the Pilots that would grab the lead in the bottom of the third when an error allowed Justin Graham to touch home plate. The lead was short lived however as the Pilots would commit an error of their own to allow the Diamond Dawgs to tie the game at 1-1.
The 5th inning would see the teams combine for 11 runs as the bats began to warm up. Mohawk Valley would talley on 6 runs in the top half before Newark would answer with 5 of their own to cut the Diamond Dawgs lead to 7-6.
Ryan Toohers would come back in the 6th inning to hit a 2 run homerun over the right field wall that proved to be the insurance runs for the Diamond Dawgs as they would go on to win 9-7.
The Pilots return to action tomorrow night for a 5:05 first pitch against the Elmira Pilots.
