
Pilots Defeat Diamonddawgs

The Newark Pilots (5-2) scored a franchise record 19 runs to defeat the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs (3-5) by the score of 19-6 at Colburn Park on Saturday night.
The Pilots struck first by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. With one out and the bases loaded, Sean Osterman (St. John Fisher College) drove a ball deep to centerfield for a Sac- Fly that allowed Josh Crowdus (Delta State) to score from third. Cash Barker (Texas A&M) followed with a base hit up the middle allowing Joe Landi (University of Rhode Island) to score.
The Pilots exploded in the bottom of the second inning, scoring six as they were able to bat around their line-up. With one out and the bases loaded, Brent Langston (Delta State) cleared the bases with a double down the left field line allowing Ben Bostick (St. John Fisher College), Josh Perez (Mississippi College), & Landi to score. Barker then drove in Langston and Osterman after singling to left field. Ralph Alloco (University of Dayton) blooped an infield hit to the first baseman allowing Barker to score from second.
Mohawk Valley made some noise in the top of the fourth as they scored two runs. With one out in the inning, Eric Helmrich (Marist) singled to right field allowing Tyler Heck (Union) to score all the way from first. Jesse Buratt (Baton Rouge CC) hit a booming double off of the left field score board allowing Helmrich to score.
In the bottom of the fourth, Newark had another multi-run inning as they scored five to take a 13-2 lead. With the bases load Osterman scored after Phillip Flach (Samford University) worked the pitcher for a walk. Crowdus later singled driving in Barker and Alloco to score. Perez followed with his own single allowing Flach and Crowdus to score.
In the top of the fifth, the DiamondDawgs put together a four run scoring effort. With the bases loaded, Christensen walked batter Chris Cruz (Cornell) allowing Eddie Sorondo (Delaware State) to score. Shortly after, Jack Morrow (Young Harris) hit a bases-clearing double which allowed Joe Carcone (Bryant), David Del Grande (Sacramento State), and Cruz to score.
The Pilots went on to score five runs in the bottom of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings of the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Langston was able to score for Newark during a run down. In the bottom of the sixth with bases loaded, Crowdus scored after Langston got hit by a pitch.
Soon after, Perez scored as Osterman walked in his at-bat. In the bottom of the seventh, Landi smashed a hit into center field for a triple that allowed Bostick and Crowdus to score.
In relief, Chris Rogers (Oklahoma Baptist) earned in the win for the Pilots. In two and one-third innings he allowed only one hit while striking out two.
Eddie Fitzpatrick (Brown) took the mound for the DiamondDawgs in a losing effort. The righty only lasted for one and two-third innings allowing the Pilots to score eight runs, five earned on six hits. Fitzpatrick struck out two batters while walking three and hitting one.
The Pilots will host Glens Falls at Colburn Park at 7:05 p.m. Sunday. Mohawk Valley will be home against the Pilots at Veterans Memorial Park at 7:05 p.m. Monday.
