Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

A seven-run third inning helped set the tone as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (34-28) tied a franchise record for runs in a 16-1 win over the Durham Bulls (28-36) on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.

The Pigs had previously scored 16 runs on June 16, 2009 at Durham.

Eight of the nine members of the Lehigh Valley starting lineup had a hit.

Darin Ruf (2-3, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 3 R) led off the bottom of the second with a double and scored on Andrew Knapp's RBI single to give the Pigs a 1-0 lead.

Knapp's single extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

A seven-run third broke the game open for the IronPigs and gave the hosts an 8-0 lead. Brock Stassi delivered a two-run double in the inning, J.P. Crawford, Nick Williams, Cam Perkins and Cedric Hunter (4-5, 3 RBI, 2 R, SB) each came through with RBI singles in the frame while a throwing error charged to Bulls starter Jamie Schultz allowed another run to score.

All eight runs were charged to Schultz (5-3) who gave up the eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits while walking one and fanning three in 2.1 IP.

The seven runs marks the most in an inning by the Pigs since they also plated seven on August 9, 2015 at Columbus.

Durham cut the lead to 8-1 with a run in the top of the fifth as Jake Goebbert drew a two-out walk, advanced to second on a walk and scored on Juniel Querecuto's RBI single.

IronPigs starter Ben Lively (3-0) allowed one run on one hit to go along with three walks and five strikeouts in seven innings of work.

In the home half of the frame, Stassi (3-4, 2B, 3B, HR, 3 RBI, 4 R) was hit by a pitch with one away, went to second on a groundout and scored on Hunter's RBI single to give Lehigh Valley a 9-1 advantage.

A six-run seventh extended the lead to 15-1 for the Pigs. Ruf's grand slam was the big blow in the inning while Stassi delivered a solo shot and Crawford plated a run with a sac fly.

The home run was Ruf's seventh of the season and Stassi's third.

In the bottom of the eighth, Stassi led off with a triple and later scored on Hunter's RBI groundout to extend the IronPigs lead to 16-1.

RHP Michael Mariot (1.0 IP, BB) and RHP Frank Herrmann (1.0 IP) each had scoreless outings in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

Darnell Sweeney (2-5, 2 R) also had a multi-hit game for Lehigh Valley.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. as LHP James Russell (1-1, 1.95) gets the ball for the Pigs against Bulls RHP Austin Pruitt (4-4, 3.11).
