
Pigs Begin Three-Game Set with RailRiders

The IronPigs (12-11) began a three-game homestand series against rival Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at 7:05 Tuesday night.The homestand will be kicked off with a Nick Williams bobble head giveaway given to the first 3,000 fans 18 and older courtesy of Giant Food Stores.RHP Mark Appel (1-2, 6.11) gets start for the Pigs and the Mud Hens will send RHP Chad Green (2-1, 3.74). RHP Mark Appel makes his fifth start of the season after picking up his first victory of the season in his last outing on April 27 at Columbus. The Houston native tossed five innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five in the Pigs 7-4 victory. RHP Chad Green makes his fifth start of the season for the RailRiders, and has won two out of his last three decisions with his last outing being a no decision. In his last outing on April 27 against Louisville, the Greenville, SC native 3.2 innings surrendering five runs on eight hits. A four-run third inning by the Toledo Mud Hens was too much to overcome as the Pigs fell 6-4 Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Park. Trailing 2-0, Toledo's Jacoby Jones singled home Brendan Ryan to put the Mud Hens on the board and began a four-run rally. Efrnen Navaro then knotted the game at 2 with an RBI double scoring Mud Hens outfielder Alex Presley. James Loney then sent a sacrifice fly to center, scoring JaCoby Jones to give Toledo a 3-2 lead. Bryan Holaday then capped off the four-run rally with an RBI single that scored Navarro, putting the Mud Hens on top 4-2 after three. Rhys Hoskins extended his team season-high 11 game hitting streak with an RBI single scoring Crawford that held Alfaro at second. The base hit for Hoskins also extended his Minor League best 22 game on-base streak that began in the second game of the season for the 23-year-old. J.P. Crawford inched the Pigs closer as he plated Taylor Featherston on an single to center to draw the Pigs within a run as they trailed 4-3. The 22-year-old short stop has now hit safely in his last five contests after struggling earlier in the season. Crawford, who was hitting .083 on April 22, is now batting .145 improving his batting average by .062 over the last seven games. The last time the Pigs and RailRiders met was back on April 10 through April 13, where the RailRiders took three of four games from the Pigs. The lone Pigs win came in shutout fashion in a 6-0 victory. The Pigs started off their scoring as Dylan Cozens roped a two-out RBI single to right, scoring Roman Quinn who reached on an error by RailRiders shortstop Ruben Tejada, to give the Pigs an early 1-0 lead. Dylan Cozens then notched his second RBI of the night with an RBI single to make it a 3-0 Pigs lead with Nick Williams on deck. Williams followed with a two-out RBI double to score Cozens to make it a 4-0 Pigs lead after three.
