June 22, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Phoenix Rising FC News Release

Despite playing down a man for over an hour, Phoenix Rising FC finished a road trip sweep with a 4-1 win over OKC Energy FC. Forward Solomon Asante notched a brace (and was responsible for creating an own goal) while Jon Bakero added a beautiful free kick goal. The club also extended its club-record winning streak to seven matches.

WHAT TO KNOW

Phoenix Rising extends its winning streak to seven matches.

Solomon Asante is the first player on the team to reach double-digit goals.

Phoenix Rising played down a man for over an hour after a Joey Farrell red card.

HIGHLIGHTS

Rising FC got on the board first with some help from the OKC defense. Asante sent a ball into the box for teammate Adam Jahn. But Energy FC defender Atiba Harris deflected the pass into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Three minutes later, Asante found the back of the net on his own. Defender Amadou Dia got in behind the Energy FC defense and sprinted down the left flank to meet the ball in open space next to the box. He sent a cross toward the right side and found Asante, who smashed the ball into the net off the volley for a 2-0 lead.

Defender Joey Farrell then received his second yellow of the match in the 29th minute for a handball in the box and OKC cut the lead to one on the ensuing Rafeal Garcia penalty.

But Rising FC continued to pour on the goals. In the 54th minute, midfielder Jon Bakero made it 3-1 when he curled a free kick inside the near right post and past the diving keeper.

Asante finished the night's scoring in the 79th minute. After Jahn deftly chested the ball to his foot, he kicked it on the volley to Asante. The forward brought the ball down with a touch, then sent a right-footed shot off the half volley to the far left side of the net to make it 4-1.

Phoenix Rising returns home to Casino Arizona Field on Saturday, July 29th, to take on Portland Timbers 2. It'll be Winter in June Night featuring the Arizona Coyotes. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at PHXRisingFC.com
