Philyaw to shine in All Star Classic

July 1, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL) - Montgomery Bears News Release

Montgomery, AL -The National Indoor Football League has selected former Troy University Defensive Back, David Philyaw of the Montgomery Maulers to participate in the National Indoor Football League's All Star Classic in Odessa, Texas on August 6, 2005.

Philyaw was with out a doubt selected by the committee because of the tremendous amount of raw athletic ability shown throughout the Maulers regular season.

This is Philyaw's second season playing in the NIFL with his first being with the Houma Bayou Bucks. For the Maulers, Philyaw recorded 43 total tackles and 14 breakups with three interceptions and three fumbles recovered. He has also recorded a kickoff return touchdown on an onside kick against the Lakeland Thunderbolts on June 11.

Head Coach James Shiver comments, "David is one of our key players. Not only does he serve as an on the field example by dominating defensively, he continues to serve as an example to others off the field. I am very proud of him and without a doubt know that he will make Montgomery proud in the All Star Game."

Philyaw will join other outstanding players throughout the country and the NIFL in Odessa, TX on August 5-6. The All Star game will take place on August 6 at the Ector County Coliseum. For ticket information contact the Odessa office at (432) 332-PASS.
