Montgomery Bears hope to get back on track during Monday night football
The Montgomery Bears are back on the road, this time to face the Carolina Speed of Charlotte, NC. The Bears are hoping that this road trip will be better than the first. The Bears lost their season opener to the Mississipi Mudcats 57-27 and hope this time there will be less distractions and mistakes as they hope to get on the winning track.
"This week of practice has been real intense and the emphasis has been on being focused and carrying out assignments. There were too many distractions last time and we want the guys to just focus on playing football and let me and the rest of the coaching staff worry about everything else,"said Head Coach Carlos Clayton.
The Bears were off to a great start in their season opener, jumping ahead 7-0 before a barage of penalties and turnovers cost them momentum and the game. This week as the Bears heads to Charlotte the Bears are hoping things are going to be a little different. The offense, which put up 216 total yards and 27 points, but also had 6 turnovers is starting to show signs of improvement.
"We have a lot of first year indoor players, but we have a solid core of veterans," stated Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator Mike Williams, "and we are starting to gel. That is not an exuse but, I can see a complete difference as everyone is starting to grasp the concept and get things down. We just have to focus on the little things that can turn a game around like execution of assignments and we will be alright."
The Bears have had two weeks to prepare for their upcoming opponent because of a bye week after their first game. This game is also a special game for owners John Morris and Mike Mink. They not only own the Montgomery franchise but the Charlotte franchise as well. The two teams will square of Monday night February 26th at 730pm EST. The game can be viewed live via webcast at www.aifatv.com.
