Evansville Otters News Release
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Behind three Dane Phillips' home runs, the Evansville Otters cruised to a 7-3 victory over the River City Rascals in front of 1,022 at Bosse Field Tuesday.
Phillips hit his first homer in the bottom of the first, giving the Otters a 1-0 lead. He hit his second in the sixth, another solo shot to give Evansville a 3-2 lead, before unloading a three-run homer to center in the seventh to extend the lead to 7-2.
The three-homer night ties a Frontier League record for home runs in a single game and Phillips joins former Otter Jeff Goldbach as Otters players to homer three times in a game. Goldbach accomplished his feat on Aug. 20, 2005 against River City.
Soat continued his offensive production in the second with an RBI single that gave the Otters a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth, Braxton Martinez hit and RBI single and Josh Silver scored on a wild pitch.
Austin Sweet earned the victory for Evansville, pitching two innings in relief while allowing just three hits and no runs. Starter Shane Weedman took a no-decision, pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up two earned runs off four hits. He struck out nine batters.
Hector Hernandez took the loss for River City, pitching 6 1/3 innings. He allowed three earned runs off four hits.
Evansville and River City continue the series Wednesday at Bosse Field on Strike Out Stroke Night and AARP members will receive a special discount. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a collectible poster.
Fans can listen live on 91.5 FM WUEV and watch on the Otters Digital Network. Lucas Corley (play-by-play) and Bill McKeon (analysis) along with Preston Leinenbach will provide coverage.
