Ottawa Lynx News Release
OTTAWA - The National League will be represented again in Ottawa, as the Philadelphia Phillies and Ottawa Lynx have agreed on a two-year Player Development Contract. This deal ends a four-year relationship with the Baltimore Orioles that was preceded by a ten-year relationship with the Montreal Expos.
The Phillies Triple-A club, that had previously played in Scranton since 1989, comes to Ottawa, after leading the International League with an 84-58 record last season.
"The Phillies have an outstanding track record with putting competitive teams at the Triple-A level," said Ottawa Lynx General Manager Kyle Bostwick. "We are very excited to see this trend continue in 2007."
Philadelphia's Top farm club has averaged 78 wins a season since 2000, including four postseason appearances in the last seven seasons.
"We are looking forward to being in Ottawa," said Steve Noworyta, Director of Minor Leagues for the Phillies. "Kyle and his staff are very solid. We look forward to providing a very competitive team for the fans."
Current Philadelphia standouts Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Pat Burrell, and National League Home Run and RBI leader Ryan Howard have all played at the Triple-A level for the Phillies.
The Ottawa Lynx will open the 2007 season in Rochester on April 6, with the Lynx home opener scheduled for April 17 against the Charlotte Knights. Ticket information can be found at www.ottawalynx.com, or by calling 613 747-LYNX (5969).
