Buffalo Bisons News Release
Baseball America today announced that infielder Kevin Kouzmanoff was named to their 2006 Minor League All-Star Team at designated hitter. Kouzmanoff played 27 games with the Bisons this season before being promoted to the Cleveland Indians.
Baseball America also released its All-Star teams for each minor league classification. Former Bisons pitcher Jeremy Sowers was named to their Triple-A squad.
Kouzmanoff began his season at Double-A Akron but was promoted to the Bisons on July 28 after hitting .389 (95-244) with a team-high 15 home runs and 55RBI with the Aeros. In 27 games with Buffalo, he hit .353 (36-102) with nine doubles, seven home runs, 20RBI and a .647 slugging percentage. Combined, his .379 (131-346) batting average finished second in all of Minor League baseball (James Loney, .380, Triple-A Las Vegas). Kouzmanoff was promoted to Cleveland on September 2 and made Major League history when he hit a grand slam that night on the first pitch he saw. He is currently hitting .240 (12-50) with three home runs and 11RBI in 14 games with the Tribe.
Sowers started 15 games for Buffalo in 2006 and went 9-1 with a 1.39ERA (97.1IP, 78H, 20R, 15ER, 29BB, 54K). When he had his contract purchased by Cleveland on June 23, his ERA was the lowest in all of Triple-A baseball. He was also tied for first in the International League in wins and shutouts (2), tied for second in complete games (2) and third in innings pitched. In 14 starts with the Indians, Sowers is 7-4 with a 3.57ERA (88.1IP, 85H, 36R, 20BB, 35K).
