Philadelphia Soul Weekly Update

February 18, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Philadelphia Soul News Release

NEW YORK STATE OF MIND

The Soul take the field for a second time this preseason when they battle the New York Dragons this Wednesday at the Wachovia Spectrum. The game marks the second time in a week the two teams have met. Last Friday in Hempstead, New York, the Soul and Dragons took the field for a 60-play scrimmage. The score was not kept, but the Soul's high-powered offense did march down the field on the first possession and score against the Dragon's No. 1 defense. After that series, the Soul rested starting quarterback Tony Graziani and most of the expected starters.

ROSTER MOVES

Head coach Bret Munsey has been very busy trying to set his roster for the season. Currently there are 37 players on the Soul's roster. The roster must be cut to 24 before the start of the season. Players like DB Chris Royal, last year's af2 Rookie of the Year, and OL Harrison Nikolao have already been a part of the casualties, while youngsters like Villanova product WR J.J. Outlaw and OL Van Nelson have impressed enough to move from the two-day waiver roster to the 37-man roster.

HOME OPENER APPROACHING - LET THE MADNESS BEGIN

The start of the AFL season is quickly approaching. With high expectations this year, March will be full of madness for the Soul. The month starts off like a lion with the opener at home against the Orlando Predators on Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. But with four additional games in March, the month will definitely not go out like a lamb.

INJURY REPORT

Currently there are no injuries of note for Munsey's squad.

LAST MAN STANDING

The Soul are currently being featured on ESPN.com and ESPN360.com with webisodes of "Last Man Standing." Each weekly webisode gives an in-depth look at the Soul's training camp and includes one-on-one interviews with players trying crack the starting lineup and others who are just trying to make the team. Here is a link to the first webisode, which hit the web last Tuesday.
