Phelps hits three homers in loss

Memphis, Tenn. - Tacoma crushed Memphis 12-3 Tuesday night at AutoZone Park to earn a split of the four-game series.

Redbirds first baseman Josh Phelps' three home runs were wasted in the loss. Phelps became the first Redbirds player to hit three homers in a game since Rick Ankiel turned the trick last season at Iowa. Phelps has five home runs and 10 RBI in his last two games.

Tacoma's offense exploded hitting four home runs off Memphis pitching. Victor Diaz and Luis Valbuena each hit two, two-run home runs to lead the Rainiers. Valbuena finished the night 4-for-4 with four runs scored.

Ryan Feierabend earned the win for Tacoma tossing seven solid innings. The lefty allowed two runs on four hits to pick up his sixth victory of the year. Redbirds starter P.J. Walters took the loss giving up seven runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings.

The Redbirds will play at Fresno tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 9:05 p.m. CDT. The Grizzlies will send right-hander Brad Hennessey to the bump with the ‘Birds yet to name a starter.
