Tucson Routes Omaha 15-3 to Win Series

Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders scored fifteen runs on eighteen hits to beat Omaha 15-3 on Tuesday night. With the win, Tucson took the four game series three games to one for their second straight series win.

Juan Cruz started the game for Tucson going two innings allowing one run off three hits and struck out two batters. Juan Gutierrez replaced him and didn't allow a run in five innings of work and struck out five batters.

The Sidewinders took a huge lead early by scoring 8 runs in the first three innings of the game. Phil Avlas had his best game in a Sidewinders' uniform going 4-for-5 with three runs, all four of his hits were singles. Josh Whitesell brought in four of the fifthteen runs for Tucson, while Jesus Merchan and Trent Oeltjen extended their hitting streaks to fifthteen and thirteen games.

One of Omaha's runs came in the second inning when Mike Stodolka started off the inning with a double and was later brought in by a Angel Sanchez line drive. The other two runs came in the ninth off a Gookie Dawkins home run that also brought in Chris Lubanski.

The Sidewinders will travel to New Orleans to play the Zephyrs in a four game series starting Wednesday at 5:00 PM. RHP A.J. Shappi (1-3, 6.37) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Left-hander Jonathan Niese (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Zephyrs. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 4:50 p.m.
