Pheasants drop Game 1 to Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants came up on the short end of a pitcher's duel on Tuesday night, falling 3-1 to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains in Game 1 of the American Association Championship Series. The Pheasants are behind 1-0 in the best-of-five format.
The Captains took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a run-scoring single from Andres Rodriguez. Christopher Garcia's groundout scored a second run in the third inning, and Andres Rodriguez added a solo home run for a 3-0 lead in the fourth.
The Pheasants mustered just five hits against the Captains' pitching. Osvaldo Rodriguez (2-0) led the effort by scattering four hits in seven innings and allowing only one unearned run. He walked two and struck out eight. The bullpen tossed two scoreless innings of relief, including Hector Carrasco's ninth-inning save. Carrasco hit Brandon Sing with a pitch to allow the tying run to the plate, but Trevor Lawhorn rolled into a double play to end the game.
Gus Milner's sacrifice fly in the seventh inning provided the only run for the Pheasants. Reggie Abercrombie was the only Pheasant with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
Ben Moore (0-1) took the loss despite pitching a complete game. He allowed six hits in eight innings while walking two and striking out three.
Probable starting pitchers for Game 2 are Sioux Falls LHP Chris Salberg (0-0, 3.86) against Shreveport-Bossier LHP Ryan DiPietro (0-1, 4.76). First pitch is schedule for 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8 in Shreveport.
Game 3 along with a possible Games 4 and 5 will take place in Sioux Falls, beginning on Friday, September 10.
