Phantoms Acquire Bo Pellah from Sioux Falls

Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Phantoms have acquired defenseman Bo Pellah and a 2014 6th round Phase II Draft selection from the Sioux Falls Stampede in exchange for forward Ryan Schwalbe and a 2014 12th round Phase II Draft selection, Youngstown Head Coach & General Manager Anthony Noreen announced today.

"[Pellah] is an elite, skilled puck moving defenseman," said Noreen. "He should help our power play, he should help us offensively, and he should bring some added numbers from our blue line."

"I'm excited to come to Youngstown and help the team out," said Pellah. "I'm looking forward to contributing and I'm excited to be a part of the Phantoms organization."

Pellah, 18, is a native of Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. In 31 games with the Stampede this season, he has recorded three goals and 13 assists for 16 points, adding 67 penalty minutes and a +9 rating. 13 of his 16 points have come on the power play. He is committed to play college hockey at Penn State University in 2014-15.

"It was one of those situations where we needed to try to shake things up," Noreen added. "We needed to try to get a defenseman in here who can help us on the power play and in offensive situations, and we felt like Bo is that [player]."

Pellah traveled to Youngstown earlier Friday morning and is expected to make his Phantoms debut at some point this weekend.

"We'll see how he feels today," said Noreen. "The expectation is that he is definitely in the lineup tomorrow, hopefully, and depending on how he feels, in the lineup tonight as well."

Schwalbe, 19, registered three goals and six assists for nine points in 29 games for Youngstown this season. He is committed to play college hockey at Minnesota State University.

"I would like to thank the city of Youngstown, as well as the Phantoms coaching, training, and equipment staff for helping me get better every day, and my teammates who made it a blast for me to come to the rink," said Schwalbe. "I'd also like to thank my billet family, Jean, Peter, and Lana Dougherty, who graciously opened their home to me, treated me like one of their own, and made my time here very enjoyable."

"I'll be honest, of any kid I've moved or let go in the three years I've been here, this was the hardest one, without a doubt," said Noreen. "Ryan did everything we asked from day one. He gave us everything he had. He was a great guy in our locker room; he was loved by all the guys and staff, loved by his housing family, and was a great member of this community and organization. It's very tough to see Ryan Schwalbe go."
