
Petes Too Much for Majors

PETERBOROUGH, ON - The Majors faced the powerful Peterborough Petes this evening and came up a little short. The Petes pulled ahead in the 3rd period and skated off with a 5-1 win. It had been 7 games since the Majors were defeated in regulation play. With the loss, the Majors record shifts to 25-19-5-3.
Peterborough's Jordan Morrison got the scoring started 9:42 into the game, off of Aaron Dawson and Greg Stewart feeds. Ryan Wilson tied the game up for St. Mike's at 3:01 of the 2nd period, on the power-play. The assists were credited to Scott Lehman and Justin Donati. However, Jamie Tardif put the home squad back in front less than 3 minutes later, with a man-advantage tally of his own, off of Steve Downie and Daniel Ryder passes.
Then, the Petes swept the scoresheet in the final frame, with another power-play goal at 6:45 and even-strength markers at 16:46 and 18:55. Tardif, Downie and Morrison grabbed the goals while Morrison (2), Stewart, Lubomir Stach, Patrick Kaleta and Fredrik Naslund collected the assists.
Wayne Savage had 39 saves for the Majors while Trevor Cann responded with 31 stops for Peterborough. St. Mike's was 1 for 7 on the power-play while the Petes were 2 for 9. The game's three stars were Jordan Staal (1st), Morrison (2nd) and Savage (3rd).
The Majors return home to host Sudbury tomorrow afternoon (Sunday, February 12th) at 2:00 pm. The Wolves have defeated the Majors 4-3 in overtime twice over the past month and sit 1 point behind St. Mike's in the standings. This game will be webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.
