"Brian is a solid two-way defenceman, a smooth skater, has good puck skills, and uses his size well to protect the puck," commented Petes General Manager Mike Oke. "He showed well on video during the scouting process, and our contacts in Europe spoke very highly of him."
Ziemià â à ¡, a 6'1", 165lbs forward, last played for HS Liga in the Latvian league and registered 8 goals and 3 assists for 11 points in 31 games. He has represented Latvia at the U16, U17, and U18 levels, putting up 12 points in 10 international games.
"We were able to watch some video of Kaspars playing in the Under-18s and he showed very well in that tournament, and we also had some good reports from contacts in Europe," added Oke. "He has a high hockey IQ and is a very motivated player who, in the past, has come to Canada to train in the off-season."
"We're very pleased with our selections today as they enhance our organizational depth."
The Petes originally held the 43rd and 103rd overall selections but picked at 35th and 62nd overall as a result of teams passing on their selections.
