Petersburg Takes Pitcher's Duel as Marlins Fall

PETERSBURG. Va. - The Morehead City Marlins (2-7 second half, 12-24 overall) allowed just five hits as the Petersburg Generals (3-6 second half, 17-20 overall) defeated the Marlins 1-0 on a walk-off single from Taylor Buran in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday evening in Petersburg.

Matt Wainman (1-2) suffered the loss, despite tossing eight innings of work, allowing just four hits, and striking out eleven. The Generals scored the only run of the game when Ricardo Castro led off with a walk, which spelled the end of the game for Wainman. William Prince entered for Morehead City, and after a sacrifice bunt Buran lined a walk-off single to left field to win it for Petersburg.

Ryan Moore (2-2) picked up the win for the Generals, tossing a scoreless ninth frame after notching a strike out with the go-ahead run at third base to end the inning. Danny Mooney started for the Generals, going seven innings and shutting out Morehead City on eight hits.

Despite managing just seven hits, three Marlins registered multi-hit games as Chad Shannon, Reed Gordy and Drew Woodall were all 2-for-4. Ryan Cranmer had the other Marlin hit.

The Marlins are home tomorrow as they host the Wilmington Sharks where it's Christmas in July presented by the Salvation Army of Carteret County at Big Rock Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. as Matt Sutor has the live call on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.

Notes: The Marlins were shut out for the fourth time this season... It was the second time an opponent has walked-off over the Marlins... The loss was the fourth straight for Morehead City.
