Tendler Tears Up Owls

July 10, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- Luke Tendler powered the Asheboro Copperheads to a 7-5 win over the Forest City Owls on a rainy Tuesday night. The third baseman smacked a solo shot off Ryan Tezak to tie the game at 4-4 in the 6th inning. Then, Tendler took Jason Driver deep to turn a 5-4 Owls lead, into a 7-5 edge for the Copperheads in the top of the 8th inning. Forest City has now seen its season-worst losing streak go to five in a row.

Nick McQuail gave the Owls their second lead of the night with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning. That appeared to be the game-winning hit in what had been a back-and-forth contest. Instead, Driver gave up a one-out double to Jared Hammer and a two-out walk to Lucas Witt before Tendler's second long ball of the night.

Justin Bryan erased an early 2-0 deficit with a bases-loaded, double off the mini-Monster in left field, tying the game at 2-2 after the 1st inning. Asheboro took the lead back in the 4th inning thanks to Alex Tomasovich's RBI double. The Owls responded with an RBI base hit by Bryan Aanderud, and an RBI double from Alex Close, putting Forest City on top 4-3.

The Owls had numerous chances to build a bigger margin, but couldn't quite continue a rally. They left the bases loaded in the 1st inning after collecting two runs against Zach Bernard. They got to Bernard again, knocking him out in the 5th inning, but couldn't capitalize against Pete Schultz who stranded two runners. Forest City brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the 9th, but Dylan Dickens closed it out for his 5th win of the season.

Forest City starts a home-and-home series against the Columbia Blowfish tomorrow at Capital City Stadium. The Blowfish come to McNair Field on Thursday night. That will be a Thirsty Thursday game with discounts on all beverages. Call 828-245-0000 to order tickets or stop by the ticket booth at McNair Field.
