Pete Dewar Named Red Claws Athletic Trainer

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that Pete Dewar, MA, ATC has been hired as the team's athletic trainer.

Dewar, 26, joins the Red Claws from the University of Arizona where he was the athletic trainer for the women's basketball team as well as the football and track and field teams and earned a Master of Arts degree in Teaching and Teacher Education. He has also spent time working with the NFL's Detroit Lions and Washington Redskins as a Summer Camp Athletic Training Intern. Prior to Arizona, Dewar received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in Health & Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training, working predominantly with Purdue's basketball, football and softball programs.

After receiving his master's degree from Arizona, Dewar furthered his studies in Guangzhou, China where he was served an intern position as an athletic trainer for the Institute for Western Surgery for several months before joining the Red Claws. Through that position, he served as Outreach ATC for American International School of Guangzhou, worked at the EurAm International Medical Center and Guangdong Provincial Hospital, and provided athletic training coverage for various sporting leagues and competitions throughout the Guangdong Province.

A native of Truro, Nova Scotia, Dewar currently serves on the communication committee of the World Federation of Athletic Training & Therapy and is also the newsletter editor. He has been a member of the NATA since 2005 and became certified in 2008.
