Pete Crow-Armstrong Saves the Day in a Come Back Victory for Tennessee

BIRMINGHAM, AL- The Smokies looked to get the bad taste out of their mouth after dropping a tough 7-6 loss last night in Birmingham. The Smokies had the early lead, but Birmingham scored four unanswered runs to take a 4-2 lead. Down to their final out in the ninth, Hollywood Pete saved the day with a go-ahead double to win the ballgame for Tennessee.

Tennessee reached the scoreboard first when Smokies first baseman Nelson Maldonado drilled a solo home run off the scoreboard to make it 1-0 in the second inning. The next inning, the Smokies put together some two out magic when Pete Crow-Armstrong singled, Luis Vazquez walked, and then BJ Murray knocked in PCA with a single to make it 2-0 Smokies.

The Barons got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Alsander Womack recorded the first Birmingham hit of the night on a line drive single into center field, scoring Tyler Neslony to cut the Smokies lead down to one run. The Barons took their first lead of the night in the fifth inning on a 2-out, 2 run home run by Moises Castillo to make it 3-2 Birmingham.

Neslony added an insurance run for Birmingham in the eighth inning, smashing a hanging slider for a solo home run to make it 4-2 Barons. The Smokies had the bases loaded in the ninth inning, and Pete Crow-Armstrong delivered a bases clearing double, scoring three runs and taking a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning. Ben Hecht came out of the Smokies pen for the bottom of the ninth, walked two batters but struck out the side in the ninth to win it 5-4.
