
Persistent IceHogs outlast pesky Generals

Flint, Mich.- In the final game before the United Hockey League's All-Star break, the Rockford IceHogs won a dramatic 5-4 game over the Flint Generals at the Perani's Hockey World Arena and Events Center. Forwards J.C. Ruid and Miguel Lafleche knocked in a pair of goals to help vault the Hogs back into the UHL's top spot heading into the break
Rockford was first to score in the opening period. While on a power play Ruid blasted home his 23 goal of the season at 5:12. Flint would tie the score with a power play marker of their own. Kevin Kerr's slapshot was stopped by IceHogs goalie Michel Robinson, but the rebound deflected off of Jason Selleke's and leg into the net at 8:55.
Then two quick goals by the Generals made the score 3-1. The first was a breakaway marker by veteran center Rob Valicevic at 15:18. Just 27 seconds later, rookie winger Mike Kinnie tried to chase down a loose puck in the Rockford zone. Robinson couldn't poke the puck away and Kinnie tapped it in to give the Generals the two-goal cushion at the intermission.
In the second period, the IceHogs received a pair of goals to tie the game back up at 3-3. Lafleche deflected in the IceHogs second marker of the game at 2:47. Ruid then notched his second tally of the contest at 9:11 of the period, snapping in an even strength marker to tie the game.
The IceHogs grabbed the 4-3 lead in the final period at 9:25 when Olivier Proulx beat Generals goalie Marco Emond. But the Generals retaliated with a goal at the 17:48 mark. Winger Kevin Kerr tipped a shot over Robinson to tie the game at 4-4. Lafleche however, broke the hearts of the Flint fans when he beat Emond at 19:30.
The Hogs outshot the Generals 30-23 in the contest and held them to just eight shots in the final two periods. Rockford was 1-for-8 on the power play and held Flint to 1-for-7 on the advantage. Robinson earned the win by turning away 19 Generals shots.
