Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
Gabriel Perez surrendered just two runs in five innings of work to pick up his league-leading 4th win of the season and held guide Orem to a 8-3 win over Billings on Thursday night.
The Owlz fell behind early when the Mustangs scored a run in the 3rd inning thanks to a 2-out rally. Perez issued two walks and then gave up a RBI double to Carlos Sanchez. However, Perez was able to get Robert Maddox to ground out to end the threat.
The offense responded in the top of the 4th with a big rally off of Sal Romano. Romano had allowed one hit through three innings, but ran into some major trouble with one out in the 4th inning. Jonathan Walsh singled and Kyle Johnson doubled him in to bring home the first run. Jarrod Parks walked to put runners on at 1st and 3rd. Parks stole second and Andrew Ray doubled them both in to give Orem a 3-1 lead. After three walks, Michael Snyder singled home two to give Orem a 6-1 lead, and also extend his hitting streak to 18 games.
Perez allowed one more run in the 5th on a balk, but Garrett Baker and Michael Morin combined to give up just one run in four innings of work. Baker allowed a solo home run to Seth Mejias-Brean in the 6th and then put the next two men on base. However, he got three straight outs to get out of the inning and keep the Owlz in front.
Two more runs came home for Orem in the 6th on a wild pitch and a RBI single by Wendell Soto. Soto reached in four of his five at-bats.
The Owlz picked up their 4th road win of the season and improved to 11-13 on the year. The rubber match of the three game series is Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
