Perez Gives Curve Dramatic 4-3 Victory Over Trenton

ALTOONA - The Altoona Curve were able to salvage the final game of a three-game series and the final game of a seven-game homestand with a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Trenton Thunder Wednesday afternoon at Blair County Ballpark.

Miguel Perez drove in Jason Delaney from second base with a single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Curve (2-5) their second win of the year. Perez, who came into the game hitting .083 (1-for-12) finished the game with three hits and three RBI.
Trenton jumped out to a 1-0 lead against starting pitcher Derek Hankins by way of a Colin Curtis sacrifice fly that brought in Reegie Corona in the top of the first inning.
Altoona answered in the bottom of the second as Perez came through with the first of his three hits, a two-out, two-run single plating Delaney and Luis Cruz to put the Curve up 2-1. The Curve would hold that lead until adding another run in the bottom of the sixth. Jonel Pacheco knocked in Anthony Webster to put Altoona up by a 3-1 count.
Hankins pitched well for Altoona, going five innings and surrendering just one run on six hits, striking out two and walking two. He gave way to Ronald Belisario who pitched scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh, but was touched up for two runs by Trenton in the eighth on a two-run single by Corona, which knotted the game, 3-3.
Chris Hernandez (1-0) came in midway through the eighth and also pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth, holding the Thunder at bay to earn his first win of the year.
Eric Wordekemper (1-0), in his second inning of relief in the bottom of the ninth, was hit in the leg with a line-drive off the bat of Delaney and had to leave the game. He gave way to Josh Schmidt, who gave up the winning hit to Perez.
The Curve will have an off day Thursday before starting a six-game road trip on Friday, beginning with a three-game series against the Reading Phillies. The trip will continue next Monday through Wednesday at Trenton.
Altoona will return home to open a seven-game homestand against the Erie Seawolves and Akron Aeros starting April 17.
